Forest Carbon Management Options for British Columbia
BC Ministry of Forests and Range
ESSA worked with the BC Ministry of Forests to analyse the carbon-storage implications of a range of forest management options. In consultation with Ministry staff we designed a set of scenarios representing business-as-usual and alternative management for two representative BC ecosystems. We then used the Carbon Budget Model of the Canadian Forest Service (CBM-CFS3) to simulate changes in C over time for each scenario. We compared the C sequestration implications, among other things, for the business-as-usual and alternative management scenarios so that we could assess the positive or negative impacts of alternative management on total ecosystem C storage, C in the soil, deadwood and living biomass pools, and C that was harvested.
The report for this project will be posted when released by the Ministry.
